Welcome To Studio Sunday

Hiya Sassy Sistahs! It's Susan here, and I'm going to show you how to make a 3D Sassy using Photoshop Elements 6. Here on the East Coast it's the dead of winter, so let's pretend we're in Sunny California and sip a frosty bev with Sweet Freckled Lemonade Lindsay. Once your done with the tutorial, hop on over to Killam Creative to see the card made with this fabulous image!

STEP 1

Create new document that is 8.5 x 11: go to File, then New
Name: If you plan on saving the file for future use, give it a name
Preset: Custom (you will need to fill in the fields, or US Paper (pre-filled fields)
Width: 8.5 inches, Height: 11 inches, Resolution: 300pixels/inch, Color Mode: RGB Color, Background Contents: Either White or Transparent
Click "OK"

(click on images for a closer view)
STEP 2
Open your SSD image* and plan out how many layers you will need, so you know how many identically-sized images to print. Here are my layers for Sweet Freckled Lemonade Lindsay:
1 - full image
2 - body (no bucket)
3 - lemonade

*to make this easier on everyone, I'll write as if you are using Lemonade Lindsay, too.

Note in the photo below that I am working with the file at 17% of it's size (bottom left corner). This allows me to see the whole document at once, without scrolling up/down or left/right. Double click in that box to change it if you need. It will be very helpful later!

Crop out blank space around Lindsay - this will help when you want to select your final print size. Don't worry! This is only a temporary change to your original image (don't save it!), and you can add blank space around the printed image in a later step.

STEP 3
Using move tool, click-and-hold on Lindsay and drag her to the new document waiting in your bin.

This will automatically put the new document in your main window. Don't worry that Lindsay is huge - we will fix that in the next step! Before you go any further, double click on that original Lemonade Lindsay image sitting in the bin, and close it without accepting any changes.

STEP 4
Now you want to resize Lindsay to the final print size. Since my cards are usually 5.5 x 5.5 I'll make her around 3.5 inches (actual size is 3" wide x 3.5" tall).

To resize Lindsay, make sure her layer is "active". In the Layers Palette on the right side of your screen, you should have 2 layers called "Layer 1" and "Layer 2". Layer 1 is the background, and Layer 2 is Lindsay. Click once on Layer 2 to make it active - in my PSE Layer 2 is now light gray.

To resize her to 3" wide, click and hold your control key and hit "t" (control-t). You'll now see a box around your image, with a green check mark and red circle in the bottom right.

Hover your mouse over one of the small corner squares until you see a single arrow that points to upper right and lower left. Click-and-hold, and pull that corner toward the opposite corner. (Using the corner squares keeps Lemonade Lindsay's original proportions.)  I use the ruler guides to help get my 3.5" size - if you can't see them, click "View" and check Rulers. Once you are happy with your size, click the green arrow. Don't worry that she looks kind of patchy right now, she will print just fine!

STEP 5
Now we can duplicate this perfectly-sized Lindsay! Make sure Layer 2 is active, and use the Move Tool to put her in the top right corner. Leave an inch or so around her as an imaginary margin.

Over in your Layers Palette, right-click on Layer 2 and duplicate. (I don't usually name layers since I don't save these files.) Remember that I wanted 3 layers for my Lindsay? I have to repeat this step one more time.

Now the Layers Palette shows 4 layers, but only one image is visible since they are stacked on top of each other. Using your Move Tool, click on Lindsay and drag each image to a new location. Make sure you have enough blank space around each image (remember you cropped out her blank space earlier?).

You are now ready to click on the print button, and go to the print dialogue box. If your image is off-center or her head is cut off, uncheck "Center Image", then click-and-hold in the white box to move the image around. When it's printed, you can close this file, saving if you wish (although it's easy enough to repeat later).

STEP 6
Color your printed image and cut out the layers. Note that I only colored Lindsay's edges on the base image since it will be barely visible. Add adhesive tape to the base image and 1/16" Pop Dots to the layers.

And finally, I use tweezers to add my layers together. I put a tiny dab of glue on the end of the straw to attach to her lips.

That's it! Thanks so much for reading along, and I really hope you find this useful. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through my blog. Now it's time to head on over to the Sassy Studio Store and pick out *your* next 3D Sassy!

Happy New Years and Welcome to a new Team!!!

So in no particular order, here are our 9 newest full time editions!!! and boy do we have a Sassy and talented group of ladies!!! there names will link you to their blogs where you can catch a peak at some of their sassy creations so i hope you will stop by each of them and leave them some love!

Hi girls, I am so happy to be here! This is going to be so much fun! I first discovered Sassy Studio on 365 Card Challenge and loved them (and was happy to find someone who sold Card Scents), then I got to use them as a DT member of Get Sketchy. I love the Sassy images!

I work full time as a grade 1 teacher, have 2 girls ages 14 and 11 (almost 12) and am happily married. I love anything to do with paper - cards, scrapping, altered items, as well as painting, photography and home decorating. I need my 'down time' daily in my scraproom, it is what keeps me sane (or at least I think I am, lol).

Along with being on this DT I also design for Get Sketchy, Schlosser Designs, The Scrappiest and one more to be revealed soon!

Hi I'm Lisa. I am a recent SAHM. Before that I was a counselor for kids. I have a wonderful 14 year old volleyball playing daughter. I have been married for 18 years to my best friend.

My other interests besides art and papercrafts are dogs and bicycling. I train dogs and compete in dog agility competitions. I have four dogs; three labs (chocolate, black and yellow) and a black bi australian shepherd. I compete in agility with my chocolate lab Maddie and my aussie Panda. They are both ranked second in the Nation in their respective height classes through DOCNA. I also have trained Panda to be a therapy dog. We volunteer each week for a local hospice visiting patients and giving them cards:)
I am an advid road and mountain biker. I compete in both. I get my best creative ideas when I am on a bike ride.
I have been papercrafting for several years and have been doing some form of art or craft since I left the womb:)
I am so excited to work with you all. What a talented group!!!! Sassy Designs are so much fun to color and work with. They are inspirational!
I also design for The Greeting Farm, Pixie Dust Studios, Shirleys 2 Girls.

and some of you may recognize Sara! She graciously stepped in to help out when Deb had to leave SSD a lil early and she is back as a full fledged member!
I'm so excited to be able to stay! I have to say that SSD is my absolute fave digi stamp co. I seem to use them on everything!!!
I'm a SAHM of 4, 3 girls ages 18, 15, 13 and 1 son 10. I've been married to my best friend for 19 years. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, 4 turtles, 1 rat, and 1 chinchilla. WOW, that's alot-heehee! We have a very busy life. When I named my blog, it was very chaotic, it has slowed down SOME! If there's anything else you want to know, just ask, I'm not too shy!

Hello girls! I'm Susan, from Killam Creative. I also answer to Honey, Sweetie, and Mommydog. My husband -Matthew- and I have been married 12 excellent years.

We have a 6-year-old Blue Doberman Pinscher named Finnegan. He is absolutely the sweetest dog in the world! We adopted him from a Doberman Rescue two years ago. At the adoption event, he picked Matthew out of all the potential adopters, and the decision was made. He's a sweetie.

I've been a hobby photographer since I was 13, and started making cards about 5 years ago. I can honestly say I only decided to take it seriously in 2009, and I've had a creative explosion of sorts. It's been a great ride so far, and I can't wait to take it to my "next level" with SSD. I'm thrilled to be in such great company on this design team.

Cheers!

Hi everyone!!

I'm Jen. I'm a full time middle school art teacher to a herd of 7th and 8th graders (302 at my last count), mommy to two crazy little ones... Ben is 3 and Evey is 5. My husband and I have been married for 9 1/2 year... 10 in April. He's a super amazing creative genius who does everything from web design to TV commercials to some wicked cool clipart type graphics. And he plays a mean game of ping-pong.
I am currently designing for Twilight Tuesday, Sassy and one more to soon be announced. I'm very new to this type of creating... it just started card making in March of 2009... so about 9 months ago. I think I've picked it up pretty quickly but don't be surprised if I sometimes ask strangely naive questions about stamping/scrapping, lol.

When I'm not doing this or grading papers (which isn't too often) I'm cooking, reading (I'm a Twilight fan-fiction junkie), working on my photography skills, making jewelry (not so much these days) or hanging with the family at our in-laws lake house (that's where I disappear to on most weekends).

Happy New Year!!

Hi! My name is Gini and I am really excited to be a part of this group! I guess I would still be considered a newlywed. My husband and I got married on Easter this year. We were friends in high school, but had not seen each other for over 20 years - we reconnected through Facebook, and it was true love!

We live in the small town where we grew up, near Asheville, NC. We have an 18 year old cat, named Monkey Man, but no kids.

I have been crafting for most of my life. Besides working with paper, I love beadwork, and have taught that all of the country, and had many pieces published in books and magazines. But some of my beaded pieces take hundreds and even thousands of hours to complete, so I have really been concentrating more on paper arts, because it is more immediate gratification.

Hi ladies! I am beyond thrilled to be designing along such talented peeps. So glad to meet you all!
I am a 30 year old gal who loves life and Nebraska Cornhusker college football...go 'skers! I am engaged to be married to an awesome guy with whom I own a home in
frigid lovely Omaha, Nebraska. Together we have four furbabies...two Yorkies named Peanut and Pumpkin and two English Bulldogs named Tink and Izzy. I am a total dog person (ya think?!?).

I started papercrafting as a scrapbooker, but once I tried stamping and cardmaking there was no turning back. Hopefully someday I will have a resurgence of scrapassion, but until then I plan on having tons of fun making cards and altered projects.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to design with such wonderful images!

Good Afternoon everyone!!!

I just want to say Happy New Years to all of you! and I am sorry I am having a delay getting the new DT post up...my hubby switched us over to google chrome as out internet browser and it is not cooperating with me right now and so i tried to go back to explorer and it isn't cooperating with me either they are letting me do some things and not others but I am going to keep fiddling with it and as soon as it decides to let me finish it i will get it posted...and wait til you see some of the projects they have posted!

New DT announced!

Ok this was the hardest thing I had to do! I thought the 1st round was hard but this one was near impossible! there were so many wonderful entries! Last time I took th etime to email every person even if they didnt make it, and this time there is just so many I honestly cant do that I do appologize. If you put in an application thank you sooooooo much! you all really did make my job sooooo hard! and if you didnt make it its only a 3 month term so I hope you'll be ready to try again in 2 months!
So I know I said I was going to pick 7...well honestly it was really really hard because when it came doen to it i really couldn't do it! so I decided this term I was not going to do guest designers...with such a short term it is just to omuch of a hassle to do guest designers, and well last round we lost a few people prematurely which was kind of hard because we were left short and i had to bring in replacements (Cassie and Sara) which was not a problem at all I love having them as part of my team but I know it had to be hard to step in right in the middle, so this round I will have more than enough so if anyone has to take a leave early it wont leave us short soooooo without further adue...
We have 9 new Sassy Sisters joinging the SSD Design Team!!!
SO...I know your excited but before I go into that I wanna do a quick announcement of who is sticking around as part of the leadership team!
Jacquie - Party Planner and Sassy Saturdays
Valerie - Challenge Coordinator
Piali - Sponsorships
Lelia - Studio Sundays
Cassie - PCP and SCS liason
these ladies will be returning and helping to share in the responsability of making SSD run smoothly for all of you
unfortunately Margie will not be returning next term but I am sure we will still see her around I want to thank Margie for being a part of the 1st ever SSD DT she is extremely talented and was a pleasure to have. We will all miss her so much! SO Margie thank you so much for being a part of this journey with me and helping to make it such a wonderful begining!
ok ok I know you wanna see who made the team!
without further adue....
SARA MORENO
JEN SHULTS
CATHRYN EDGAR
LAUREL SEABROOK
LARISA HOHMAN
ANITA KOCOUREK
GINI WILLIAMS
SUSAN KILLAM
LISA FUTCH
So congrats to these lovely ladies, and to those whos names are not included I appologize I couldnt get individual email out this round but I really do appreciate every single entry and it sincerely was a very very very tight race so to speak so keep an eye out in february for details on the next call out.
So I know we dont have a release on the 1st we are taking a lil vacation, but on the 1st we will be introducing all the new DT members with a lil bio some samples of what they have created using SSD images etc so we hope you will stop in and join us in welcoming the new team.... and who knows there might be something in it for you guys too ;)
have a happy new years!
Lindsay
