Holiday Honey Blog Hop!

Welcome everyone to the Sassy Studio Designs Holiday Honey Blog Hop.  Before I get to all the details, I would like to introduce you to our Steampunk winner Elke.

Didn't she do an amazing job on this Blue Christmas card?  Great job Elke.  You can visit Elke at http://tiggerartwork.blogspot.com.  Thanks for joining us Elke.

Now, back to business. We have had a week of previews and now those amazing images are available for sale.  But before you head off to get yours, please join us in our hop.  We have some great fun lined up for you.  First, as you hop, each DT member or guest designer has a trivia question about the 12 Days of Christmas on their blog.  All you have to do for a chance to win 3 fabulous images from this release is to leave the answers in a comment right here on the SSD blog.  Entries with the correct answers to all 12 questions will be put in the hopper and the winner will be chosen randomly.  You have until Monday, November 14th at midnight to enter.

But wait, there's more.  As you hop, leave each member some love along the way.  Each comment will put you in the hopper for 1 brand new Holiday Honey image.  There will be 2 winners and you never know which DT member's blog comments the winner will be chosen from, so spread your love around.

We will also be hosting a Party Chat tonight at 7 pm Pacific time.  Just come on back to the SSD blog and click the Party Blog flag and join in.

Here is the hop order:

Thank you so much for joining us.  See you right back here tonight for the Party Chat!

  1. This was a fun hop with beautiful cards and inspiration galore.

I found these answers on the web. I had no clue there was a religious meaning to the song.

2 Turtle Doves = The Old and New Testaments
3 French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues
4 Calling Birds = the Four Gospels and/or the Four Evangelists
5 Golden Rings = The first Five Books of the Old Testament, the "Pentateuch", which gives the history of man's fall from grace.
6 Geese A-laying = the six days of creation
7 Swans A-swimming = the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, the seven sacraments
    8 Maids A-milking = the eight beatitudes
9 Ladies Dancing = the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
    10 Lords A-leaping = the ten commandments
11 Pipers Piping = the eleven faithful apostles
12 Drummers Drumming = the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle's Creed

Thank you again!! I hope I am home to join in the chat later.

  3. From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books
    of the Old Testament.

The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit-Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history lesson for today. Now you know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol.

What a lesson in faith! AWESOME

  10. Since you asked the questions in such a specific way, I'd have to answer with the story of the Catholic catechism song:
    1 Jesus Christ
    2 testaments
    3 virtues: faith, hope, charity
    4 gospels/evangelists
5 first 5 books of the old testament about man's fall from grace
    6 days of creation
7 sacraments/gifts of the Holy Spirit
    8 beatitudes
9 fruits of the Holy Spirit
    10 Commandments
    11 faithful apostles
12 points of doctrine in the Apostle's Creed

Some people believe there is no connection between the song and Catholicism...
