Studio Sunday Time

It's Cassie here and I'm showing off a cute little tagbook. The main directions and idea came from Suzanna Boyd and you can go here to see her video directions. This would be cute to give as a gift with IOU cards or even to a hostess aroudn the holidays filled with gift tags waiting to be filled out. I plan on using mine with summer fun ideas.

The supplies you will need:
A Sassy image, I used Hula Hunny
1 12x12 double sideded designer paper
1 sheet of cordinating paper
score-pal (or a score blade for your cutter)
a paper cutter/trimmer
tape/glue
ribbon

Step one is to score your 12x12 paper every 3 inches (you should end up with four columns). Turn the paper 90 degrees and score at 2 inches, 6 inches, and 10 inches. Fold along the scored lines.

They take the cutter and using the 6 inch score cut up 9 inches (you should have a 3 inche area still intact).

Now fold it like an accordian. Add tape to the parts that need to be sealed (there is about three spots - the first pocket, the middle, and the last pocket).

Cute the smaller paper down to 1"x4" as this will be the book binding to hide any uneven folds. Glue/tape this piece to the book. Now decorate the front using your favorite Sassy image. Be sure you put foam tape on the main image so that the ribbon can slide through and it can be tied and untied as needed.

Can't wait to see why ya'll come up with. I'll try to get a Mr. Linky up as soon as I figure out how :)

Pot of Gold

Well I wasn't sure what I was going to do for a tutorial because the other DT rock at coloring and I am nowhere near their skilll level! However, when Lucy Leprechaun was released I knew what I wanted to do. I thought she would be a perfect Pot of Gold for my girls!

To start out I purchased some clay pots.

I painted the pots with the gold metallic acrylic paint. So quick and easy only took a few minutes.

To adhere the glitter I just ran a strip of the 2 sided tape around the rim and then shook the glitter on top (do this over a catch tray to save unused glitter). I then pressed down on the glitter to make sure most of it was stuck down then blew and wiped the excess (I see by the picture that I should have done a bit more wiping! )

I then colored my Lucy's. I love digital images as they can be made any size you want and I wanted her pretty big to suit the pot. As you can see I only colored the parts I needed. Before cutting her out I adhered another piece of cardstock to the back for stability.

Sorry about the lighting here - my good camera is in Europe with my hubby and oldest daughter so I have to use my youngest daughters camera, but you get the idea. I attached Lucy with foam squares. I also am giving this to my daughters who are 14 and 12 so I didn't want the beer mug. I did my best to cover it up with a shamrock bouquet (cut with cricut - Paper Dolls Dress Up). I know my girls are going to love this, as they never get St. Patrick's Day things so this will be totally unexpected!

As a final tip. I am not normally a glitter person so I don't want it all over everything. So I use this handy little tool to clean off my work area.

Sassy Studio Sunday #19

studiosunday109_copy

Good Valentine’s Day morning to you.  It’s me-Sara, and I’m your hostess for today!  Please please be nice, this is my first ever tutorial, and I’m extremely nervous!!!  I tried to not do it, but they found me-hehe!   So today I’m going to share with you how to do a stair step card.

SSD-stair-step1

For this fun card you will need a piece of cardstock cut 6 x 10 1/2 inches.  You’ll also need your DP, some glue, an image, and any embellishments you want. Oh and one of the most important things that you’ll need is a scor-pal or some other tool for scoring.   I did keep mine very simple today, because my DP already have enough on it for me!!

Next you will need to score the paper at 2 1/2”, 4 1/4” and 6”.  If your using a different scoring tool, you’ll need to score at 1 1/4”, 2 1/2”, 4 1/4”, 6”, and 8 1/4”.

SSD-stair-step2

Now, I’m going to try to explain this next part without confusing you to much!  If your using the scor-pal like I am, you’ve noticed it doesn’t have score marks at every 1/8”.  So what you’ll need to do is align the left side of your paper at the 3” mark and score again at the 4 1/4” mark.  Next slide the 6” score line on your CS to the 2” mark and score again at4 1/4”.

Now fold all your score lines in the mountain/valley style.

SSD-stair-step3

This is how it should look.  Now get your dp and start measuring.  You’ll need to cut to these measurements.  1 3/16” x 6”, 1 5/8” x 6”, and 1 7/8” x 6”.

SSD-stair-step5

Next glue those down on the folds as shown above.  Now you get to put you image/ images on to your card.  Like I said I kept mine very simple.  I used a MS punch and 2 SSD cameo images.  My sentiment is computer generated and added a small ribbon below it.

SSD-stair-step-final

We would love to have you play along with us in this tutorial.  Rules are simple, use this technique, and an SSD image of your choice.  Use Mr. Linky to link back here and you’ll have a chance to win a dollar deal image of your choice.  Have fun, and I can’t wait to see what you create!  Don’t forget you only have until Saturday February 20th.  Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!

Studio Sunday #18: Sponged Edges

Hi everyone! Welcome to Studio Sunday!! It's Jen here. This week we are going to do a sponged edge tutorial! I'm going to walk you through the steps of getting smooth inked edges to achieve a nice vintage look or just add a bit of color to the edges of your projects.

So lets start off with supplies:

The basic supplies you need to sponge edges are: a sponge dauber, ink (Distress Ink or Memento Chalk Ink are highly recommended), blotting cardstock, and your card components.

To start off make sure you have your image on a sheet of cardstock or a few sheets of printer paper for blotting.

Next pick up some ink on the sponge dauber by directly daubing the sponge dauber on the ink pad.

Next blot the sponge once or twice on the blotting cardstock or printer paper.

Then very lightly swirl the ink onto the edge of your image/background cardstock or designer paper. You will just lightly touch the edge of the paper with the sponge using a small circular motion. It's best to build up layers of ink rather than immediately go straight to a dark value.

Continue this all the way down the side of the image being careful to keep the ink even and light.

Continue around the image until all the sides are finished.

Repeat on all as many parts of your card as you like (I tend to do everything that is light in color including designer paper.)

Last assemble your card!

There are lots of ways you can vary this. You can use different bright or pastel inks, you can layer similar colors of ink to create a richer edge, you can go deeper into the paper with the sponging and on and on. The sky is the limit!

So today's Studio Sunday challenge... try out the tutorial! Use sponging and a Sassy image on any project you like and share it with us. If you participate you will receive a FREE dollar deal image!!!

Be sure to leave your link in Mr. Linky if you participate!

Sassy Studio Sunday #17

Hello Everyone!!!
Welcome to Sassy Studio Sunday!...
Today I have a fun tutorial for cute gift box..and its GREEN project, we will recycle or I should say Upcycle some craft supplies.
Lets start with the supplies....

1 sheet of 2" x 2" cardstock, double sided DP,  riddon,Scor-tape, nestabilities -Large scallop circle and circle dies, a Sassy image (colored) and the thin chipboard from the back of the paper pads we use for crafting...Yeah will recycle it now.
Step 1:

Cut 2 scalloped circles out of thin chipboard( Back of the paper pad) and 4 scalloped circles out of the cardstock..using the Spellbinders large scalloped circle die...if don't have that die you can use any other thing to cut out above all into 5" circle( can use a small dish too).

Step 2:

Make a sandwich of two cardstock circle with the chipboard circle in the middle..just to cover the chipboard...adhere firmly...Repeat again to make two of it. This will the base and the top of the box.

Step 3:

Cut 1 strip of 2" X 11" piece of cardstock and another 1"x 11" piece.
Cut 7-8 pieces of 1/2" x 2" cardstock.

Step 4:

Apply scor-tape to short end of the 2" x11" cardstock strip and adhere the ends to form a pipe like circle.
Step 5:

Fold the 3 -1/2" x 2" strips into half...apply scor-tape and adhere to the circle in a L-pattern ..as shown in the picture above.
Step 6:

Adhere the circular rim to the base scallop circle... then adhere smaller circle die-cut piece of the DP inside
(I used the largest die from the Large Scallop Nesties and second largest circle die from the Large Circle nesties.)
This makes the base of the box..

Step 7:
Repeat steps 4-6 with the 1" x11" strip of the cardstock to form the lid..check to make sure the the lid fits perfectly inside the base.

Step 8:

Now the pretty part...adhere another die cut circle on the top of the box...added the Sassy image ..I used the TEDDY BEAR..I love it . I also added a die cut heart which can be used as a tag to write a message or name.
I just added a strip of 1 1/2" x 11" strip of DP on the outside of the box to make it  prettier..but its optional.

Embellish it  anyway you like..I added a lovely bow and Faux stitching with a white gel pen..

It will a perfect for candies, jewelry, small craft supplies...etc..a fancy gift box for someone special.
Hope you all like this tutorial .
If you try out my tutorial this week and  link your project up using Mr. Linky below you will receive a FREE dollar deal image.  Please have your project linked up by Saturday, Feb 6th.
